Accessibility
I want everyone to be able to read this site, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or reduced-motion settings. If something gets in your way, tell me and I will fix it or send you the content another way.
The standard
This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. No law requires that of a personal site; it is simply the right way to build one.
What the site does
- Semantic HTML with landmarks, a skip link and headings in order, so the page makes sense read aloud or scanned by heading.
- Every image and icon has a text alternative, or is marked decorative so assistive technology skips it.
- Body text is set in ink on paper at a contrast ratio above 4.5:1. Brass is used for ornament and underlines, never as the only colour for text you need to read.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, including the floor menu, the key card, the project gallery and the forms, and focus is always visible.
- Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content, and the layout reflows on narrow screens without sideways scrolling.
- Every form field has a visible label, errors are announced, and if the form service is unavailable the form falls back to your own email program.
- Animation respects your operating system's "reduce motion" setting: with it on, nothing moves or parallaxes and the page simply fades in. The scrolling ticker has a pause button. Nothing autoplays for more than 5 seconds without a control.
- The same content is available as a plain, single-column résumé page and as a PDF.
Known limitations
- The home page is intentionally motion-heavy. Those sections honour reduced motion by showing content without animation, but if any movement still bothers you, the plain résumé page carries the same content with none.
- The PDF résumé is text-based and single-column, so it reads in order and can be searched and copied. It has not been checked with every screen reader. If it does not work for you, ask me for another format.
- The site relies on third-party typefaces from Google Fonts. If they fail to load, the site falls back to your system fonts and remains readable.
- LinkedIn and other linked sites are outside my control.
How it was checked
The build is checked with keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom at 200%, the reduced-motion setting switched on, and automated accessibility checks in current versions of Chrome, Safari and Firefox on desktop, and Safari on iOS. Automated checks miss things, so real feedback from real people matters more than any of that.
Request another format
If you would like my résumé as plain text, a Word document, large print or any other format, email Myke0526@gmail.com and say which format works for you. I will respond within 5 business days.
Report a problem
Email Myke0526@gmail.com with the page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you were using. I read everything and I will fix what I can.
